Lower Ouse

Warning no longer in force

River levels in Barcombe are still high, but are now falling after Storm Dennis's widespread heavy rain. Tide levels at Newhaven will be lower on each successive tide. In combination, water levels on the Lower Ouse, between Lewes and Newhaven will now fall today, returning to more normal conditions Tuesday 18/2/2020. Flood impacts will ease, but may continue to affect fields, gardens and roads until river levels fall further. No new property flooding is expected. Please continue to take care in and around flood affected areas, flood water can contain hidden dangers. Only isolated showers are expected until Thursday 20/2/2020. These showers are unlikely to cause river levels to rise significantly, if at all. Please plan to avoid driving through routes vulnerable to flooding, which may still be affected today. We will continue to monitor the levels and forecast and will re-issue messages if the risk of flooding increases.
