Upper River Swale

Flood Alert

This flood alert has been issued in response to heavy rainfall on Thursday morning (20/02/2020). River levels are rising on the River Swale around Grinton Bridge and on Arkle Beck around Reeth. Whilst flooding of low lying land and roads is possible, we do not expect to issue flood warnings for the upper River Swale for the next 24 hours. Further significant bands of rainfall are expected over the coming days, and river levels will rise and fall. River levels upstream of Catterick Bridge are expected to peak on Thursday afternoon, however they are expected to be below levels of significant concern. Areas most at risk are low-lying roads and footpaths close to watercourses as river levels can rise quickly with little warning. Please use the GOV.UK website for current river levels and stay aware of your surroundings. We will continue to monitor the situation closely. This message will be updated in 8 hours, or as the situation changes.

This information last updated 12:05pm, Thursday 20th February.
