Flooding possible. Be prepared.

Flood alert

Flooding continues to be possible on Monday 15 December 2025. Persistent rainfall over the last 48 hours caused river and lake levels to rise. No further significant rainfall is expected on Monday or Tuesday and river levels have now started to fall. However, large amounts of flood water remain. Locations most affected will be low lying land and roads near rivers Ehen, Calder, Irt, Esk and other watercourses from Harrington to Annaside including low lying areas around Whitehaven, Cleator Moor, Egremont, Gosforth, Eskdale and Bootle. We are closely monitoring the situation. Avoid using low lying footpaths, bridges near local watercourses and do not drive through flood water. This message will be updated by 10:00AM on 16 December 2025 or as the situation changes.
