Flooding expected. Take action now.
River levels have risen at the Little Caldew river gauge as a result of persistent heavy rainfall earlier today and the combined high levels of the Rivers Eden and Caldew. Consequently, flooding of property and roads is possible in the next few hours on Sunday 09/02/2020. Properties in the Caldew Maltings, Willowholme and Shaddongate areas of Carlisle, including the Willowholme Industrial Estate, McVitie's Factory and Sainsbury's store, car park and filling station are at risk.
The bulk of the heavy rainfall has cleared to the east with only showers forecast this evening and overnight. We expect river levels to remain high overnight. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are out on the ground and have closed flood gates and are checking defences. The Little Caldew pumping station at Caldew Maltings is in full operation.
