This message has been issued because flooding of homes and businesses is likely through today, Thursday 14th January 2021. The River Chelmer is rising steadily in response to the rainfall. Areas most at risk are Great Dunmow, Howe Street, Little Waltham, and the Rivermead Industrial estate in Chelmsford. The forecast is for rain to clear the area by this evening, followed by more settled conditions on Friday but with further rainfall on Saturday. Flood water is dangerous. Don't put yourself or others at risk. We are monitoring the situation, and will update this message by 09:00, Friday 15th January 2021.
