Flooding expected. Take action now.
River levels are rising rapidly on the Chew Stoke Stream, River Chew due to heavy rainfall.
Areas most at risk include Mill Lane, properties on The Street and access to School Lane and Chew Stoke primary school in Chew Stoke. Water will be deep and fast flowing at the fords on Mill Lane and Pilgrims Way. Flooding will also affect Dumpers Lane, Tunbridge Close and Tunbridge Road in Chew Magna.
Flooding of property is possible from 03:45 PM on 04/12/2023. Further heavy rainfall is forecast throughout the afternoon but river levels are forecast to fall later this evening.
We will continue to monitor the forecast and re-issue or update this warning if necessary. We are monitoring defences and are checking rivers for blockages in the area.
Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water. Start acting on your flood plan if you have one.
This message will be updated by 20:00 PM on 04/12/2023, or as the situation changes.
