Flooding possible. Be prepared.
Groundwater levels in the Bourne Valley are high.
At the borehole in Vernham Dean, the level peaked on Wednesday 25/02/2026, and has since fallen by 29cm. In Upton, levels are high but steady. Flooding is expected to be affecting a small number of cellars in Upton. Septic tanks will also be struggling to operate properly. Currently, we do not expect impacts to property at Vernham Dean, Hurstbourne Tarrant, Stoke or St Mary Bourne to be occurring. From Tuesday 03/03/2026 to Saturday 07/03/2026, mostly dry weather is expected. Groundwater levels will continue to slowly fall over the next week.
We are closely monitoring the situation.
Residents across the Bourne Valley are advised to prepare property resilience measures and ensure that pumps are working where they have been installed in case levels begin to rise again.
