Flooding expected. Take action now.
Heavy rain is currently falling in the Upper Witham catchment and will continue throughout the morning on Monday, January 6. This is causing River Witham to rise and is forecast to continue to rise through the early hours of the morning. Low lying areas near to the River Witham are already flooded and we now expect isolated properties and villages from Hougham to Claypole to be affected this morning onwards. Low lying properties near the river on Church Street, Long Bennington are expected to be affected first. Further heavy rainfall is forecast for the morning of Monday, January 6, and therefore river levels are likely to continue to rise. Remain safe and be aware of your local surroundings. Please avoid contact with flood water. Our staff are out in the area to check the flood defences, clear blockages, and assist the emergency services and council. We will be closely monitoring the situation and this message will be updated online and on FloodLine by 3PM on 06/01/25, or before if the situation changes.
