Flooding possible. Be prepared.

Flood alert

High tides, strong winds and large waves today may lead to flooding.
Flooding is possible from 17:00 to 22:30 today, 05/02/2026.
Locations most affected will be coastal roads and footpaths along the North Sea coast from Staithes to Whitby including Sandsend and tidal River Esk.
We are closely monitoring the situation.
Avoid coastal roads, footpaths and carparks, which may be flooded .
This message will be updated by 09:00 on 06 February 2026 or as the situation changes.
