The flood warning for the River Foss at the Foss Basin and Layerthorpe is now in force. River levels on the Foss have risen at Huntington due to prolonged rainfall. Levels at Huntington have reached 2.7m and are forecast to peak between 2.7 to 2.8m this afternoon, Thursday 21/01/2021. No further significant rainfall is expected today, 21/01/2020. The area’s most at risk are riverside properties in the Heworth Croft area. The Foss Barrier is in operation and flood gates are closed. Please prepare your property, avoid using low lying footpaths and do not walk, cycle or drive through flood water. Please see the GOV.UK website for a 5 day flood forecast. We are closely monitoring the situation and will update this message in 8 hours, or as the situation changes.
