River Sankey catchment with St Helens and Warrington

Flooding possible. Be prepared.

Flood alert

Rising river levels overnight may lead to flooding. 
Flooding is possible from the morning of 04 September 2026 . 
Locations most affected will be low lying land and roads around Black, Barkers, Windle and Whittle Brooks and their tributaries rainfall overnight is expected to cause river levels to increase from Friday morning onwards, peaking around 09:00am 4th September. Flooding is expected to worsen until this time. Flood warnings ARE NOT currently expected to be issued. 
We are closely monitoring the situation . 
Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water . 
This message will be updated by 5:00PM on 04 September 2026 or as the situation changes.
