Flooding possible. Be prepared.
River and lake levels remain high today, Sunday 21 December 2025. Further rainfall is expected overnight tonight into Monday 22 December 2025. Lake levels will continue to fall today 21 December 2025 but may rise overnight in response to the rainfall. Locations most affected will be low lying land and roads near the rivers Brathay, Rothay, Winster and other watercourses from Grasmere to Grange-over-Sands including low lying areas around Ambleside, Skelwith Bridge, Windermere, Hawkshead, Newby Bridge, Backbarrow, Cark and Cartmel. We are closely monitoring the situation. Avoid using low lying footpaths, bridges near local watercourses and do not drive through flood water. This message will be updated by 10:00 am on Monday 22nd December 2025 or as the situation changes.
