Flood alert

Saturday afternoon's tide at 13:15 on 19/02/2022 is forecast to be higher than normal, and similar to Friday afternoon 18/02/2022. Gale Force 8 South Westerly winds and large waves increase tide table values by 0.55 m. The total forecast tide is 6.28 metres Chart Datum (3.23 mAOD) at Littlehampton. For 2 hours either side of high water, spray overtopping will affect footpaths and esplanades including Marine Drive at Ferring, Marine Parade, Worthing, Lancing and West Beach and Shoreham Beach, Shoreham. Shingle and water could affect the A259 near Brooklands. Strong winds and large waves will continue over the weekend, albeit not as extreme. After Saturday, the next highest tide is forecast to be 20cm lower, on Monday afternoon. However, spray and minor flood impacts will continue this weekend. We continue to monitor the forecast and we will inspect the condition of the beach at low tide. Avoid walking along the sea front over high tide, shingle can be contained, carried and thrown in waves and spray. We will update this message by 20:00 on 19/02/2022
