Flood warning

The River Ouse is high and rising. Almost a month's rain (57mm) has been recorded at Ardingly on Monday. From 21:00 (06/05/2024) flood water will affect properties of Freshfield Mill Farm, Freshmill and Millers Cottages on Sloop Lane, and Bridge Cottage, Sheffield Park. As well as extensive water in fields and gardens, roads at Fletching Mill Bridge and Sharpsbridge will also be affected. Rain has now cleared the area, and high pressure, bringing settled and dry weather, is now forecast for the next five days. The river should begin to fall by 04:00 (07/05/2024), near Sloop Lane, but not until midday Tuesday nearer Barcombe. River levels might not return nearer to normal until 11:00 Wednesday (08/05/2024). River levels could end up higher than they have been all winter. Some roads including Fletching Mill Bridge and Sharpsbridge may become impassable. Please plan to avoid driving through routes vulnerable to flooding suggested in this message. We continue to monitor the levels and forecast. We will update this message by 12:00 on 07/05/2024.
