Flooding possible. Be prepared.
Groundwater is high, very close to the surface, and rising again at the Compton borehole, following Wednesday's rain. Springs will appear, water will be in fields, and water will flow down roads, including Stoughton main road, the road from East Marden, between Cooks Lane and Barley Mow in Walderton, and the B2146 near Woodlands Lane. Groundwater will also affect a small number of cellars in Stoughton and Walderton. Only isolated showers are forecast Friday and Saturday. On Sunday 22/02/2026 and Monday, weather fronts are forecast, but currently expected to only bring small amounts of rain. However there is uncertainty and the forecast may change. Groundwater at Compton Borehole is expected to rise until Thursday 26/02/2026. May rise for longer, if more rain falls. The weather outlook remains unsettled into and through March, although perhaps with rain less often. Groundwater flood impacts will continue until the middle of March. Take care on roads that flood (Stoughton, Walderton). Ensure pumps work. We will update this message by 18:00 24/02/2026.
