Flood warning

Property flooding is expected. River levels are very high on the River Kennet as a result of a period of heavy rainfall and high groundwater. Therefore, flooding of property and roads is expected to continue today, 08/01/2024, especially in the Newbury area. Areas most at risk are Newbury particularly the Northcroft Lane area and areas around the confluence of the River Kennet and River Lambourn. This morning is forecast to be mainly dry, with the possibility of wintry showers this afternoon and evening. Rainfall totals are not expected to be significant. Tomorrow is forecast to be mainly dry. River levels may rise further in response to high groundwater elevating river levels. We are monitoring the situation. Our staff are liaising with councils and emergency services. Activate any property flood protection products such as flood barriers. Go to the 'River and Sea levels in England' webpage for current river levels. This message will be updated this evening, 08/01/24, or as the situation changes.
