Flood alert in force: Wear estuary

Flooding is possible for: Wear estuary from Lamb Bridge at Chester-le-street to the North Sea coast

High tides throughout the evening may lead to flooding.

Flooding is possible from 06:45PM on 24/01/2026 during high tides

Locations most affected will be coastal roads and footpaths around Port of Sunderland Harbour. High tides, large waves and strong easterly winds are forecast, which may lead to water overtopping and coastal spray.

We are closely monitoring the situation .

Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses , beaches, promenades and coastal roads.
