Flood alert

Flooding is still possible as the river near Beggearn Huish in West Somerset remains above the flood alert threshold of 0.5m following heavy rainfall in the early hours of Thursday (19/02/2026). However, water levels look stable and will slowly fall. Areas most at risk include the Horner Water, Rivers Aller, Washford River and the Hawkcombe, Monksilver and Doniford Streams and tributaries. Locations most affected will be low lying land and roads near rivers.

Somerset can expect patchy rain today followed by a cold front bringing more widespread rain overnight and persistent, sometimes heavy rain on Sunday morning before it clears later in the day. Monday should start brighter with only a few showers.

We are monitoring rainfall and river levels closely. Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water. Remain aware of local water levels and weather conditions. This message will be updated by 1:00PM on 22nd February 2026 or as the situation changes.
