Flooding expected. Take action now.
High tides and winds have been generating large waves along the south coast, removing the shingle from Denge Beach. The Monday lunchtime tide has now peaked and tide levels will continue to fall over the next few hours. Tides will start to rise again later on Monday evening and will be at their highest between 23:00 and 02:00 on Tuesday 1 October. Our staff are on site to replenish the shingle and will remain on site to assess further damage. A sequence of high tides will continue to increase the risk of flooding through to Wednesday 2 October, particularly at Coastguard Cottages and Midrips Cottages, East of Jury’s Gap. Flooding to properties and local roads is possible during high tides. Our incident response staff have been liaising with the emergency services. Please be careful along the beach, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads, as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous. This message will be updated by 21:00 on Monday 30 September.
