Flooding possible. Be prepared.
Groundwater is high, very close to the surface, but now slowly falling. In Patcham village, groundwater will probably continue to steadily rise all week. Widespread rain is forecast Sunday morning. There is uncertainty in rainfall amounts. Between 10mm and 20mm. If the smaller amount of rain occurs, groundwater levels at Ladies Mile could continue to fall. If the maximum rain occurs, groundwater levels at Ladies Mile will likely rise again. Either way, groundwater flood impacts will continue all week. Probably until March. A small amount of water could appear in a few basements. Previous events suggest impacts may initially affect Old London Road, Patcham and Peacock Lane, Withdean. More rain is forecast Tuesday evening. If as much rain occurs as predicted, groundwater could rise until 23/02/2026, perhaps longer, and a small amount of water may appear on roads. The weather outlook remains unsettled into March, although perhaps with rain less often. Ensure pumps work. We are liaising with Brighton and Hove City Council. We will update this message by 18:00 18/02/2026.
