Flooding possible. Be prepared.
Groundwater is high, close to the surface, but slowly falling again at Ladies Mile borehole. A small amount of water could appear in a few basements. Previous events suggest impacts may initially affect Old London Road, Patcham and Peacock Lane, Withdean. Only isolated showers are forecast Monday to Wednesday 25/02/2026. Groundwater should continue to fall over the next few days. On Thursday 26/02/2026 a weather front is forecast to bring widespread rainfall. There is uncertainty in rainfall amounts, and predictions may change, but it is probable that groundwater at Ladies Mile borehole will rise again from Friday 27/02/2026 through to next week, perhaps longer in Patcham village. Groundwater levels should not rise significantly higher than they have been so far this winter. Groundwater flood impacts could continue until the middle of March. Weather could remain unsettled through March, although perhaps with rain less often. Ensure pumps work. We are liaising with Brighton and Hove City Council. We will update this message by 18:00 27/02/2026.
