Flooding possible. Be prepared.

Flood alert

Groundwater is high, close to the surface, but slowly falling at Ladies Mile borehole. A small amount of water could still be appearing in a few basements, although likely to be infrequently now. Previous events suggest impacts may initially affect Old London Road, Patcham and Peacock Lane, Withdean. Only small amounts of rain are forecast over the five days to 10/03/2026, and groundwater at Ladies Mile borehole will continue to slowly fall over the coming week. Groundwater flood impacts are likely to stop being visible soon. There is a suggestion that unsettled conditions and periods of rain could return next week and through the second half of March 2026. However, it is probable that groundwater will continue to fall throughout March. However, if there is persistent, or exceptional rainfall in late March, groundwater may rise at times. Ensure pumps work. We are liaising with Brighton and Hove City Council. We will update this message by 18:00 10/03/2026.
