Lower Ouse

Warning no longer in force

The River Ouse is still higher than normal, following Monday's rain. The lower River Ouse will be near the tops of the banks, particularly early Thursday and Friday mornings, when the water level is expected to be similar to recent days. Minor flooding could again affect fields, rural roads and gardens of Whitfeld Lane and Ivors Lane, Hamsey. In Lewes, a small amount of water could affect Railway Lane, Eastgate Wharf, near the Fire Station and the Pells area, and gardens of Riverdale and Malling Deanery near Willeys Bridge. However, over the midday period Wednesday and Thursday, and every day from Friday, water levels are forecast to be 30cm lower than recent days. No rain is forecast for the next five days, and tide levels at Newhaven are now falling. Peak water levels on the Lower Ouse will be no higher than they have been, and should begin to fall from Friday (10/05/2024). Please plan to avoid driving through routes vulnerable to flooding. We continue to monitor the levels and forecast. We will re-issue this Flood Alert if property flooding becomes possible.
