Mock Bridge, near Shermanbury on the River Adur

Flood warning

The River Adur is high and rising. Over half a month's rain (45mm) has been measured at Haywards Heath in the past 24 hours, nearly half of that from Storm Aurore. From 05:00 21/10/2021 flooding will affect properties near Mock Bridge and their gardens. Water will also affect the A281 at Mock Bridge, near Shermanbury, as well as there being extensive water in fields. Only a further 5mm of rain is expected before the rain clears eastwards at 03:00 21/10/2021. Thursday, Friday and Saturday are then forecast to remain dry. The river should begin to fall by 20:00 21/10/2021, but is unlikely to return to normal until Saturday. River levels will end up higher than they were at the start of October 2021, and could peak higher than during the whole of 2021 so far. Some roads included in this message may become impassable, please plan to avoid driving through routes vulnerable to flooding. We continue to monitor the levels and forecast. We will update this message by 15:00 Thursday 21/10/2021.
