River Swale at Thornton Bridge

Flood warning

The flood warning for the River Swale at Thornton Bridge has been issued. River levels are rising as a result of recent heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of property, roads and farmland is possible on Wednesday 20/01/2021. The level at Crakehill is 4.5m and will continue to rise for the rest of day, on Wednesday 20/02/2021. Further heavy rain is expected until Thursday 21/01/2021 and we expect river levels to rise accordingly. Areas most at risk are access roads at Thornton Bridge. Please plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded and stay aware in case further warnings are issued. Our incident response staff are closely monitoring the forecast. Please see the GOV.UK website for current river levels. This message will be updated in 8 hours or as the situation changes
