Flood alert

Saturday afternoon's tide at 12:45 on 19/02/2022 is forecast to be higher than normal and similar to Friday afternoon 18/02/2022. Gale Force 8 South Westerly winds and large waves increase tide table values by 0.54 m. The total forecast tide is 7.68 metres Chart Datum (4.03 mAOD) at Eastbourne. For 2 hours either side of high water, spray overtopping of defences will affect the road at Carlisle Parade, Hastings. Water could flow across the road at Rock a Nore Parade. Friday evening’s tide will be 50 cm lower than the Friday and Saturday afternoon tides. Strong winds and large waves will continue over the weekend, albeit not as extreme. After Saturday, the next highest tide is forecast to be 20 cm lower, on Monday afternoon. However, spray and minor flood impacts will continue this weekend. We continue to monitor the forecast. Avoid walking or cycling at Hastings sea front. Spray and waves will contain and scatter shingle which is dangerous. The tide will also wash across some walking routes. We will update this message by 20:00 on 19/02/2022.
