Flooding possible. Be prepared.
Monday evening's tide at 23:45 on 08/04/2024 is higher than normal due to unsettled weather with strong South Westerly Force 7 winds and large waves. The weather increases tide table values by 0.66 m. The total forecast tide is 7.71 metres Chart Datum (4.19 mAOD) at Newhaven. The tide will be one of the highest in recent years. For 2 hours either side of high water, wave overtopping will affect footpaths, car parks and the road at Marine Parade and the Esplanade, including near the Martello Tower, Salts Recreation Ground and Buckle Caravan Park. Large waves and minor flood impacts will still be possible Tuesday afternoon. However, Tuesday's tide at 12:30 on 09/04/2024 is forecast to be 50cm lower (3.69 mAOD), so flood risk should be lower. We continue to monitor the forecast. At low tide we will check and work to maintain the condition of the beach which helps to protect the town from flooding. Avoid Seaford Sea Front at high tide. Flood water and stormy seas are dangerous and can sweep you off your feet. Spray will scatter shingle. We will update this message by 18:00 on 09/04/2024.
