Flooding possible. Be prepared.

Flood alert

Persistent rain will continue until 17:00 15/02/2026. Only a small river rise is currently expected. Flood impacts should remain minor, affecting fields and rural roads. From 14:00 15/2/2026 minor flood impacts may possibly approach gardens of isolated riverside properties on Mill Lane, Hellingly. From 18:00 15/2/2026 minor flood impacts may possibly affect gardens on Station Road, Church Lane and Church Road, Hellingly. From 02:00 16/02/2026 minor flood impacts may affect North Street, and gardens on River Lane, Alfriston. River levels should peak, and begin to fall by 02:00 16/02/2026 in Hellingly, but not until 12:00 16/02/2026 in Alfriston. Only isolated showers are forecast Monday and Tuesday, which should allow river levels to fall nearer to a normal level in all communities. However widespread rain is forecast for Wednesday. Flood risk may return Wednesday. Unsettled weather will continue throughout February. Don't put yourself or others at risk. Avoid roads that flood (Mill Lane, Church Road Hellingly, North Street Alfriston). This message will be updated by 20:00 16/02/2026.
