Flooding expected. Take action now.
Levels at Allerton Ings and Castleford have both peaked and are beginning to fall. Flooding is still possible. Areas at risk are the River Aire, Aire Washlands, with low lying land and roads expected to be most affected, particularly around Allerton Ings including the A656 Barnsdale Road between Allerton Bywater and Castleford. Levels are forecast to continue to fall overnight, Monday 6th January and remain high into tomorrow Tuesday 7th January. No further significant rainfall is expected overnight and it is forecast to be mainly dry and cold for the next few days. Cold temperatures are forecast to continue through next week and icy conditions remain. Avoid using low-lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not drive through floodwater. We are closely monitoring the situation and monitoring rainfall and river levels. This message will be updated by 11:45am on 07/01/2025, or as the situation changes.
