Flooding possible. Be prepared.
The water level in the Bourne Rivulet remains high but is now slowly falling. Upstream at Vernham Deane, the groundwater, which is controlling the level in the river, has been reducing for the last 8 days. It will take another 7 days before the impact of this will really become noticeable. Minor impact flooding is affecting land in St Marybourne. The weather for the next 5 days is reasonably dry, with the occasional light shower. On Monday (25/3/24) up to 15mm of rain is forecast. This rain will cause a small temporary rise (1 to 2 cm) in the river. Thereafter, if persistent heavy rain does not impact the area over the next 1-2 weeks, the water level will continue to fall. For the next month, surface water will impact the B3048 during any periods of heavier rainfall. We have deployed flood barrier at St Mary Bourne to reduce flood risk. Next week if forecast rainfall totals remain low, we will remove this message on Tuesday 26/3/24 by 17:00.
