Flooding expected. Take action now.
River levels are high but continue to fall at the Buildwas river gauge following recent heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of property is expected to continue. We expect flooding to affect Phase 2 of the Temporary Flood Barriers along the Wharfage. The barriers are operational and have water against them. The deployment of the barriers does not remove all risk, as the barrier system is a temporary structure and can not be guaranteed to perform. The Environment Agency may need to withdraw from behind the defences due to site circumstances.
Actual peak:- Buildwas 6.35m Thursday evening, 04/01/24.
We expect river levels to remain high over the next few days.
We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences and liaising with Local Authorities. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and avoid contact with flood water.
This message will be updated by 6pm today 06/01/24, or as the situation changes.
