Flooding expected. Take action now.
River levels are rising at the Buildwas river gauge as a result of Storm Darragh. Flooding continues. We expect flooding to affect Phase 2 of the Temporary Flood Barriers along the Wharfage which are now in operation and have water against them. The deployment of the barriers does not remove all risk, as the barrier system is a temporary structure and can not be guaranteed to perform. The Environment Agency may need to withdraw from behind the defences at any time from this point due to changeable site circumstances.
Predicted peak:- Buildwas 5.5m to 5.7m Monday evening 09/12/2024.
Flood water could be deep and fast flowing, and therefore pose a risk to life. No further rainfall is forecast. We expect river levels to rise until Monday evening 09/12/2024. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences and liaising with emergency services and Local Authorities. Please avoid contact with flood water.
